In recent years, ADHD and neurodiversity coaching has become increasingly popular in the UK. Many people seek coaches to help them navigate challenges in their work, studies, and daily lives.
At first glance, this sounds like a positive step forward—but there’s a serious problem we need to talk about. Unlike counselling, psychotherapy, or psychology…
ADHD coaching is an unregulated industry!
There are no formal standards, governing bodies, or consistent measures of quality. Even the “CPD accreditations” that many coaches proudly display are often misleading—because CPD providers themselves are also unregulated.
This means that anyone can set themselves up as a coach, even with little more than personal experience to rely on. While lived experience is valuable, it is not a substitute for professional training or scientific understanding. Too often, clients are left with generic advice that doesn’t meet their needs—and in some cases, this can be extremely detrimental.
Why this matters
At NeurodiverseLIFE, we believe every neurodiverse profile is as unique as a fingerprint.
Generic lists of ADHD “coping strategies” often fall flat, because they ignore what makes each individual different:
- Personal history
- Learning and communication style
- Strengths and barriers
- Context—whether in education, the workplace, or family life.
Without understanding the whole person, coaching risks becoming cookie-cutter advice that simply doesn’t work.
What true neurodiversity coaching requires
Supporting neurodiverse people isn’t just about good intentions—it requires deep and evidence-based knowledge.
Effective coaching should be informed by:
- Neurobiology and neuroscience
- Psychology and psychiatry
- Pharmacology and biology.
This blend of science and professional practice provides the foundation needed to support people ethically, safely, and effectively.
The NeurodiverseLIFE ethos
At NeurodiverseLIFE, our work is guided by the principle that there is no “one size fits all” approach to neurodiversity support. We combine lived experience with a strong academic and professional foundation.
Our CEO, Chantelle Knight, brings:
- A Foundation Degree in Education
- Postgraduate qualifications in Psychology and Neuroscience
- A Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry
- Over 25 years of professional experience across education, criminal justice, public health, and therapeutic services.
This unique background means NDL clients benefit from support that is credible, evidence-based, and truly personalised.
Raising standards for the future
The UK urgently needs greater transparency and higher standards in ADHD and neurodiversity coaching. Until then, NeurodiverseLIFE is committed to leading by example: combining professional expertise with compassion, and tailoring support to every individual we work with.
